How does Sort work?
How does Sort work?
Over the years, our sites have default-ranked boat listings by length, last updated, or distance. However, as consumers’ needs change, we have rolled out a search algorithm - much like Amazon, eBay, Google, Auto Trader, etc. - to deliver more relevant-based search results. Search results across Boats Group sites are now based on an algorithm that is constantly evolving to deliver the most optimal experience to users and customers, allowing customers to determine the level of exposure they want based on the Advantage package selected.
Consumers can still sort by price, length, distance, year, or last update; however, the default search is “Recommended” based on various factors to deliver the best results to the user. AdvantageSelect members’ listings within the search results will be prioritized based on their relevancy to the user.
Optimizing for share of voice, marketplace optimization, and value delivered based on your investment, not where you rank in every search.
How does the algorithm work specifically?
Any search algorithm - whether on Google, Amazon, Zillow, Auto Trader, etc - weighs multiple factors when prioritizing order. And like other search algorithms, ours constantly evolves based on user behavior. The algorithm finds the most relevant listings for the user, then sorts those results, with more exposure given to AdvantageSelect members’ listings.
There are ways for you to optimize your exposure within the search results. To optimize your share of voice by location, boat type, price, etc:
- Upgrade your Advantage membership package to achieve more share of voice. Check out the Advantage membership packages here.
- Improve your listing score - show price, add actual photos and video, provide a detailed description
- List all your boats to reach the broadest audience
Why are other dealers showing up above my listings even though I’m in a higher Advantage membership package?
If you’ve purchased the AdvantageSelect package, you’re already on the right track for more exposure! Remember, other dealers in your market may also be AdvantageSelect members, so the sort algorithm uses several factors to determine ranking in search results. Exposure evolves over time, so focus on the elements of the algorithm you can control, including membership tier, listing score, and consumer interest (clickability) for your listings.
What if everyone buys the AdvantageSelect product?
Like Marriott hotels, The Ritz Carlton is not meant for everyone. However, Marriott provides all its customers a choice based on their desired experience and budget.
The AdvantageSelect membership level is not meant for all dealers and brokers. It is a premium product for customers interested in maximizing their performance; however, the Advantage membership program offers other options so dealers and brokers can choose the right level to achieve their goals.
What happens if more dealers sign up in my market?
Since there are limited listings on each search results page, more AdvantageSelect dealers in a specific market will make it more difficult to rank higher.
However, quality listings with higher listing scores have a better chance of achieving more exposure!
